US Mideast Envoy George Mitchell has met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, as part of his government's latest push to revive the peace process in the Middle East.

During his meeting with Mitchell on Friday, Abbas reiterated his demand for a full Israeli settlement freeze. Mitchell said that he has invited the two sides to send their representatives to Washington to continue their discussions.

Earlier the same day, Mitchell talked with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about peace efforts. The Israeli side described the meeting as "effective and constructive", but without giving further details. Both agreed to meet again on Saturday.
