Former Friends star Matt LeBlanc is hoping to make TV audiences laugh again with a new comedy - three years after the actor's spin-off series flopped.

LeBlanc will play himself in Episodes - a comedy about the television industry.

The show will follow a husband-and-wife producing team whose hit comedy on British TV is turned into a dumbed-down American sitcom starring the actor.

LeBlanc made Friends fans laugh as Joey Tribbiani for a decade, but failed to find success with his spin-off series Joey, which was cancelled in 2006 after two seasons.

Episodes will begin shooting in London and Hollywood this winter. The programme is set for a 2010 debut on America's Showtime network and the U.K.'s BBC Two.
