The First Charity Day in Tsinghua University

Tsinghua University held a special Charity Day earlier this month to help cultivate a charitable spirit among China's elite business students. Let's follow Tingting as she visits the famous campus.

Business students have put up posters and signs on the campus of China's prestigious Tsinghua University to promote various charity themes. The themes range from environmental protection and social responsibility to education for needy children in rural villages.

Some are using creative ideas to grab the attention of passersby during lunchtime.
One person put the end of a mop on his head and wore a large paper "jacket."

"Reporter: What are you?
Student: I'm a germ. We are here to promote sanitizer. I'm a ‘germ’, and ‘sanitizer’ will be chasing after me. We are here to attract attention…"

Zhang Bo, president of MBA Student Association, is one of the organizers of this year's orientation program.

"Social responsibility is one of the key components of this year's MBA education. Correspondingly, we have planned a whole day to promote charity on campus. We used to donate stuff to show our care and love, but this time, we have a series of activities to help needy people improve their lives through their own efforts."

Mao Donghui, Executive Director of MBA programs of the university, tells us more.

Mao says she is especially happy this year to see that student organizers have added several charity activities to the orientation program.

Toks Fayomi from Nigeria is a second-year MBA student and a coach during this year's orientation program. It is traditional that second-year students coach first-year students during orientation. And the first-year students should prepare themselves to be coaches for the next year.

Fayomi says she found the orientation program helpful when she was a first-year MBA student a year ago. She says coaching this year's new students is also very rewarding.

"The orientation breaks down so many barriers in just a week's time. We get to know each other's specialty and develop teamwork….. "

Tsinghua University's Economics and Management School was among the first graduate business schools in China to introduce an orientation program. It held its first orientation in 1999.
