AIDS-Affected Children Enjoy Summer Camp in Beijing

AIDS is well known as a deadly disease which affects children as well as adults throughout the world. Unfortunately China is no exception. Recently, a group of Chinese youngsters, whose lives have been affected by AIDS, were invited to come to a special camp in Beijing. Here they were able to forget their worries for a while and experience a great summer vacation. Weiyi takes a closer look.

Xiao Jin is an eight-year-old boy from North China's Shanxi Province. He is happily drawing pictures in a children's camp in Beijing. He shows off his masterpiece of a big bear, and explains that the irregular circle next to it is a dinosaur egg. He goes on to explain how the baby dinosaur hatches and then gets into a car. The car is sketched by another child, who points out that it has good air-conditioning.

This is Xiao Jin's first visit to the capital, as it is for the other 71 children from eight provinces across China. All of them greatly enjoyed their five-day trip to the Chinese capital. Besides drawing, singing, and dancing together, they visited many places including the Great Wall, the Summer Palace, and the national stadium "Bird's Nest". They all had their own reasons for loving the time in Beijing.

"My favorite place is the Great Wall. It's said that if one has been to the Great Wall, he's never a true man. I've made it!"

"I like the Planetarium the best. There was an exhibition about outer space and it explained Galileo's theory. It was amazing."

"I liked the Great Wall the best, because it's great exercise. The wall is really long and it took us ages to walk along it."
