The colour of their hair –not to mention the size of their shirt collars –may have changed over the decades. But, as these pictures show, this scene of barber and client has not changed in 42 years.

Sam Farr, 71, has been having his hair cut by Joe Pace, 59, since the early 1970s, and his loyalty has been captured in a series of photos which show the passing of time –and the men’s growing friendship.

For while Mr Pace, now the owner of Giuseppe’s in Bath, looks rather surprised in the first snap to see his client pull out a camera mid trim, by this year’s photo he has a broad grin on his face.

Things aren’t the same as they were in the 70s, but the only consistent is Joe.

The firm, friends have shared dinners together, been away together, and Mr Farr has joined Mr Pace on holiday trips to his villa in Sicily. He's been going back for a trim every year since, even after the salon changed locations.

'Everything has changed, while Joe is still there happily cutting my hair and doing a great job of it.'
