China reports 4th confirmed case of H1N1 flu; Suspected case in Tibet

China's Ministry of Health has confirmed that a man in the southern province of Guangdong has tested positive for the H1N1 flu virus.
The patient, who recently returned from a trip to the U.S. and Canada, is the fourth confirmed case in the Chinese mainland.
A suspected case of H1N1 flu has been reported in Tibet.
A female tourist from Italy is currently being treated in a local hospital for flu-like symptoms.
23 foreign nationals who traveled with her are now under quarantine at a local hotel.

Pandemic alert level remains at phase 5, says WHO chief

The World Health Organization says its pandemic alert level remains at phase 5, despite a boom of new A/H1N1 cases in Japan.
The number of confirmed cases in Japan increased to 159 on Tuesday from only seven on Sunday.
The alert phase is determined by the geographic spread of diseases, instead of the severity.
The WHO also said that drug makers won't start making a vaccine until July at the earliest.

Brazil and China Strengthen Ties

Meanwhile, Brazilian President Luiz Lula da Silva spent his second day in Beijing in meetings with top Chinese leaders including President Hu Jintao.
The two presidents witnessed the signing of 13 cooperative agreements in areas including oil, financing, law, and agriculture.

Top Chinese legislator emphasizes economic cooperation with Italy

Visiting Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo has said China and Italy should explore new areas of cooperation amid the international financial crisis.
Wu Bangguo is on a goodwill visit to the country.
He also said as Shanghai and Milan are set to host the next two World Expos, hopefully the two sides could share experiences in that respect.

Taiwan leader vows to improve cross-Straits relations

Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou says improving mainland-Taiwan relations and building cross-Straits peace is a priority for his government.
He made the remark at a Tuesday press conference to mark his one year in office.
He also welcomed Beijing's new policy of encouraging enterprises to invest in the island.

New Palestinian government sworn in amid controversy

Salam Fayyad has taken the oath as a prime minister, amid strong opposition.
The Hamas movement has declared the new government illegal, while the Fatah faction has refused to join the government in Ramallah.
