The rarest bear in the world - the Gobi Bear. This 6 year old female was photographed in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia. Gobi bears are vegetarian desert dwelling bears. With only 22-30 individuals remaining, the Gobi bear is truly a species living on the edge of existence.

This is the one and only male Northern White Rhinoceros left on the planet. Its home is 200km north of Nairobi in Kenya, at Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Along with 4 other females, they are the last five remaining Northern White Rhinos in the world.

A mother sloth bear carries her 2 cubs on her back as they move around some large boulders in India. Most people in India don't even know where sloth bears live. Their protection status is threatened, as they are often hunted or captured for use in performances.

"Once she realized that I could not catch or accept one of her live penguin offerings, she started to bring me dead penguins. Of course, I felt terrible for the penguins but leopard seals usually play with their food before eating them and the she ate every penguin that I did not accept."
