The original Amazon Kindle was released in 2007, and cost $399. Amazon did not sell it outside the United States. It featured a 6-inch greyscale e-ink display, with 250 MB of internal memory, holding approximately 200 non-illustrated titles. It also had a speaker and headphone jack that allowed the user to access audio files.
亚马逊在2007年发布了价格为399美元的第一代Kindle，但是只在美国本土销售。这代Kindle采用于6英寸电子墨水屏，250MB内存，大概能存200本纯文本电子书，而且还配备了话筒和耳机插孔以便用户听有声书籍。

The Amazon Kindle went up against the Sony Reader, which launched in the United States in 2006, and was available exclusively through Borders bookshop for the first few months. The Sony Reader also used an e-ink display, meaning it was viewable in direct sunlight and required no power to maintain a static image.
亚马逊发布Kindle是为了对抗索尼在2006年发布的索尼阅读器，当时索尼和美国第二大连锁书店Borders（已于2011年宣布破产）联手，在刚发布的头几个月顾客可以在所有Borders的店里买到索尼阅读器，而这款阅读器也使用电子墨水屏，支持在日光直射的环境中观看，而且屏幕处于静止状态也不翻页时完全不耗电。

In 2009, Amazon announced the Kindle 2, which was slimmer than the original Kindle and featured 2GB of internal memory, enbling it to hold around 1,500 non-illustrated books. It also had a text-to-speech option to read the text aloud. It cost $359 and was the first Kindle to be made available internationally.
亚马逊在2009年发布了第二代kindle，第二代比第一代要更薄些，而且有2G的内存，可以放得下1500本纯文本电子书。而且还配备了一个文字转语音按钮，可以把电子书转成有声读物。第二代Kindle价格为359美元，也是开始在全球范围内销售的第一代。

Amazon announced the Kindle DX in 2009. It had a larger (9.7-inch) screen, making it more suitable for displaying newspaper and textbook content, and supported simple PDF files. Amazon released a 'graphite' version in 2010, which offered a better contrast ratio and dropped the price from $489 to $379.
2009年，亚马逊还发布了9.7英寸屏幕的Kindle DX，这代大屏Kindle更适合看报刊和教科书，而且内置PDF显示器。亚马逊在2010年发布了KindleDX的黑铅版本，分辨率更高，价格也由原来的489美元降到了379美元。

Amazon announced the third generation of the Kindle, later called the Kindle Keyboard, in 2010. The device had a 6-inch screen and was available in two versions – one WiFi only and one WiFi and 3G. It came in classic white and graphite, and both models used the newer e-ink 'Pearl' display, which had a higher contrast than previous displays and a faster refresh rate.
2010年6英寸的第三代Kindle（后被称为Kindle Keyboard）面世，Keyboard有WIFI版和WIFI+3G版，造型是经典的白色和石墨色，这两款Keyboard都采用了电子墨水珍珠屏，不仅分辨率大大提高，而且刷新速度也变快了。

Amazon announced the fourth-generation Kindle in 2011. It was the first device to do away with the company's traditional physical qwerty keyboard, in favour of a cursor pad and on-screen keyboard. It was smaller and lighter, with 2GB storage and an estimated one month battery life.
2011年，第四代Kindle出现了。这时，四个实体按键及一个屏幕按键第一次代替了传统的英文全键盘。四代也更轻更薄，2GB内存，电池待机时间长达一个月。

Amazon also announced its first touchscreen Kindle, called the Kindle Touch, in 2011. The device used the same 6-inch e-ink screen of the previous Kindle model, with the addition of an infrared touch-screen control. It had a capacity of 4GB and battery life of two months.
