China to be fully represented at World Bank

World Bank President, Robert Zoellick, says he believes China and other rising economies will be fairly and fully represented, in the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

He says China offers development experience, resources, growing influence, and investment.

Zoellick says developing countries like China, have earned their right to more shares, because of their accomplishments.

Chinese commerce minister calls for stronger Sino-U.S. trade ties

Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming has called for stronger economic ties between China and the United States.

He wrote in an article published in The Wall Street Journal that economic links have always been an important basis for the China-U.S. relationship.

He also called on both sides to step up cooperation in trade and investment issues, and explore and establish new possibilities for cooperation in such areas as agriculture, new and high technology, finance, energy and the environment.

China's Health Ministry on high alert for swine flu

China's Ministry of Health (MOH) is developing a diagnostic reagent for use in testing for swine flu, which has killed nearly 150 people in Mexico.

Ministry spokesman Mao Qun'an has told Xinhua that research on a possible vaccine and medication to combat the deadly virus is also underway.

He said the ministry of health has ordered medical institutions at all levels to step up monitoring of suspected swine flu cases, and to report them to the ministry promptly.

Global alarm as swine flu spreads

The world is stepping up the battle, against the spread, of a mysterious new swine flu virus.

It has killed 149 people in Mexico, where the virus was first detected.

The US has declared a health emergency, and is screening visitors from infected areas.

US authorities have confirmed 40 cases of swine flu in five U.S. States and they have released 25 percent of a federal drugs stockpile to states fighting swine flu.

Canada has reported six cases.

In New Zealand, doctors say ten students recently back from Mexico, have tested positive.

Spain became the first European country, to confirm a swine flu case.

And in the Hong Kong SAR, officials suspect a woman of suffering from swine flu.

China is requiring anyone, experiencing flu-like symptoms, to report to authorities.

The World Health Organization fears the virus could reach pandemic levels.

Mexico cancels all school activities in whole country

In Mexico, all the school activities of all levels in the whole country, from kindergarten to university, have been canceled.

The World Bank is lending Mexico, over 200 million dollars, in its fight against swine flu.

Swine flu has become "most serious concerns" of international community, UN chief says

United Nations Secretary-General Ban-Ki moon says the outbreak of swine flu is of "the most serious concern" to the international community, including the United Nations.

He's told reporters the UN is concerned that this virus could cause a new influenza pandemic.

Ban said the international community needed to "demonstrate global solidarity" as "no nation can deal with threat of such dimension on its own."
