If I’d been asked what I’d like to achieve from on-line education this time last year, I would have honestly told you this: “I’m just tired of running around a city as huge as Beijing, and have nothing under my name”. Please don’t mistake me: by “having nothing under my name”, I mean, except for the hourly pay, I didn’t know what I was doing. Teaching contents that I didn’t believe in was painful enough, and working with students who didn’t want to learn could be crucifying. I can’t say the dark days are gone, but I’ve seen the light in my on-line education project here at Hujiang.
I was head-hunted by Hujiang when I was looking for an “out” to have a flexible schedule for my to-be-born daughter, who is now almost 5 months old. I couldn’t say I was thrilled, but I did give the opportunity the benefit of doubt. My first Hujiang contact, Miss Yang favourably accepted my proposal of coaching British accent, and everything—including the British accent frenzy and our Huali Academy—started at that shake of hands.
A year is short, and in the blink of an eye, it has been crossed off as history by the establishment of Huali Academy, 2 curriculums of general English and British Accent Betterment, 23 classes, and almost 700 registrations. A year is so long that it’s surely beyond my best abilities to list all the conversations, improvements, adjustments, communications, tutorials, and all other interaction amongst my dear students, Hujiang contacts, Hujiang management, fellow teachers, dedicated student representatives, and myblank.
I want to thank everybody, which I have done repeatedly, but I’d rather melt my gratitude in my future endeavours with Huali Academy, which has been built on hard work, and which will prosper with more hard work and better jobs done to it. In the new Huali Year, there will be more classes in different categories with a bigger teaching faculty. Laozhang can teach, and he welcomes better teachers and entrepreneurs to benefit students and Huali as well.
Speaking of education, I have to bring up the motto of the newly founded Huali Academy, which is knowledge and truthfulness. Knowledge, for what it is, comes from books, but true knowledge is in understanding ourselves, who might be sometimes willful and innately greedy. The picture seems hopeless but truthfulness brings the positive aspect. Only by being truthful with ourselves and what we are doing, can we do our jobs well and hopefully do our jobs better.
Huali has always been a group of people who are bravely dedicated, insanely nitpicking, and stubbornly straight forward. For that very reason, we areloved and hated, which is fine by us, because we believe you will choose making progress with our help over being nice to and staying where you were. So, with great pride and blank-belief, we pronounce that we’ve made it a mission and promise to be with you along the way of education in knowledge, for jobs, and of life.
