The vice governor of China's Sichuan province says that post-quake reconstruction funds will be spent effectively.

Speaking to a press conference in Beijing on Sunday, Vice Governor Wei Hong said reconstruction in Sichuan would cost 1.7 trillion yuan. So far 360 billion yuan has been brought into the government's budget. He said the government is taking measures to ensure the money is used properly. Sichuan province plans to finish 72 percent of its tasks of reconstruction by the end of this year.

Sichuan Vice Governor Wei Hong said, "We can notify the press responsibly, that we have spent the 100 billion yuan relief fund during the initial stage securely and effectively. And we can also guarantee that the post-earthquake reconstruction funds will also be spent securely and effectively."
