The title of the composition is: Film Is Giving Way to TV. You should write about 200 words for your composition and it must include the following ideas (given in Chinese):
1.电影观众越来越少
2.电视观众越来越多,因为……
3.然而,还是有人喜欢看电影,因为……
Quote as few figures as possible. Remember to write your composition in readable handwriting.

Film Is Giving Way to Tv
The latest statistics show that the number of people attending cinemas is getting steadily smaller. At the same time, the number of television viewers is growing at almost the same rate.
Experts say that these two trends are connected in three ways. First, over the past few decades television sets have appeared in almost every home. Second, films very quickly become available on video, and can be shown on the TV screen. Third, it is becoming more expensive to make films, and so prices of cinema seats are rising.
However, this does not mean the death of the movie industry. There will always be people who prefer to go out to see a film. This is because no matter how good a TV film or video is, it can never be as entertaining as a film shown on the "big screen."

How I Finance My College Education?

To many of the high-school students who have gained access to colleges of universities, the cost of higher education means a fraction of their parents' saving account. With many others, the tuition is collection of savings borrowed from relatives or close friends of their parents'. For those like me whose families are short of the conditions above, however, the best course of action is to resort to the education fund for a loan.
Among the factors contributing to my choice, there are three underlying ones. The primary one lies in the fact that the loan from the education fund can not only relieve my family immediately from anxiety about where to get the tuition but also exert little direct impact on its daily life that is already hard up. In addition to the worryfreeing advantage, the loan from education fund is usually interestfree, in which light my family is less likely to get into a vicious circle that may be caused by compound interest. And what is most important, such a loan will become a pushing force behind my pursuit of knowledge. Much evidence proves that a proper financial pressure usualy stimulates one to further efforts to lift himself out of the straits.
Although I haven't much option in the matter of tuition, I feel no regret for my decision. Instead, I will play my cards better than ever. I will spare no effort to be excellent in studies and strong in charactor for the sake of my family as well as of myself. That way I am bound to create a pathway to success.

Qualities for Successful Executives

In general, people believe what accounts for an executive's success is both a diploma corresponding to his ideal position and a lucky break; but in reality, for every administrator kissed by fortune there are hundreds more with admirable diplomas whose chancs were once seized on but lost again. According to a recent questionaire, eight or nine such cases out of ten result from personality conflicts rather than from lack of professional ability. To retain a position that can give full pay to your talent, therefore, you should cultivate the qualities as follows.
One trait is frequent acknowledgement of your boss's goals as your own. It too often happens that, when you are pursuing your ambitions, you are more apt to forget the primary reason you were hired: execution of the mission to help your boss accomplish his or her true objectives. For this reason, frequently deepening the sense of mission in your mind helps shift your aspirations into line with your bos's, thus ensuring the advancement in your career. Another attribute is the ability to make others, especially your subordinates, comfortable. As countless facts have proven, whoever wishes to be the kind of person others enjoy being around, whoever wishes to make people more efficient in work, and whoever wishes to win support from his subordinates, should put the people around him at ease and accept others for equally important coworkers. On the opposite extreme are the tough executives who may be winners on both academic and profitable point scale but losers of both "like" votes and permanent prosperity of their causes.
Perhaps most of all, a successful executive must be an optimist. Instead of reacting to any setback by assuming there is nothing they can do, optimists leave no stone untouched in finding the way out of every adversity and laugh through it. You may find constant inspiration in an old saying:" The pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity and the optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty."

Harmfulness of Fake Commodities
One negative aspect of China's rapid economic development is the phenomenon of fake and shoddy goods. In the hope of making quick profits, some unscrupulous people manufacture and sell substandard clothing, foodstuffs and medicines. This malpractice has caused alarm and concern among consumers, who are increasingly demanding that it be stamped out.
There is no denying that fake commodities do a lot of harm, not only to the normal development of the economy as a whole, but also, and more importantly, for the health of the general public. For example, in 1988 in Northwest China’s Shanxi Province a peasant sold fake liquor, resulting in the deaths of 27 people. Looked at from a wider perspective, the social evil of counterfeit goods has the side effect of undermining the people’s trust in the market economy.
It is high time to take firm steps to put an end to this unhealthy trend once and for all. First, the government should tighten the rules and regulations concerning the manufacture and sale of commodities, and make sure that they are enforced. Second, consumer’s associations should educate people to recognize shoddy goods and report them promptly to the authorities.

Do “lucky Numbers” Really Bring Good Luck?
There are people who believe that some numbers bring good luck, while others bring bad luck. For instance, in China the number eight is thought to be lucky. Turning our attention to the West, we find that the number seven is considered lucky, but the number 13 is avoided like the plague.
In spite of all these claims, most people would agree that there is little evidence that numbers have any influence on our lives. In fact, they say, the reverse seems to be the case. For one thing, we might expect calculators to break down every time they note the number 13, and for another, although every week has seven days we know that not every week is lucky for us.
Weighing the pros and cons of these arguments, I am inclined to agree with the latter point of view. It is obvious that there is no scientific basis for the belief that there is a connection between luck and numbers. All in all, it seems to me to be superstition.

Gifts of Money to Children
It has long been a custom in China to give children money as gifts on the occasion of the lunar new year. What is raising widespread concern nowadays is the fact that these sums of money are getting larger and larger, luring children into becoming extravagant and wasteful. This has led to calls for the custom to be abolished.
Valid as this point of view is, there are many people who defend the custom. They say that the giving of money to children on special occasions encourages them to behave properly all the year round. Besides, by handling money, children can learn to become financially independent.
Weighing both these arguments, I have come to the conclusion that there is no need to take so drastic a step as doing away with this custom. So long as the amounts of money are not too large there is little danger that children will develop wasteful habits. However, adults should explain to their children how to spend their money wisely.

The Re-Employment of Laid-Off Workers
The market economy has brought China headaches as well as benefits, and one of the recent ones is the problem of finding new jobs for laid-off workers. There is no doubt that if employment is not found for this surplus labor force then there will be serious social consequences. Therefore, it is essential to explore ways to get laid-off workers back to work.
To my mind, priority should be given to the expansion of tertiary industry. My reason for stressing this is that tertiary industry can provide large numbers of jobs with few restrictions as to age, gender, cultural differences, etc. Besides, little capital is needed to set up enterprises in this field.
At the same time, the laid-off workers should be encouraged to help themselves. They can do this by attending training courses to improve their skills or acquire new ones. They can also use their initiative by pooling their money and investing in their own businesses.

Is a Test of Spoken English Necessary?
A test of spoken English will be included as an optional component of the College English Test (CET). But as to whether or not it is necessary to hold such a test, people’s ideas are not cut from the same cloth.
Many maintain that it is absolutely necessary. They base their arguments on the grounds that, with China’s door on the outside world opening wider and wider, a mastery of sopken English will be of great benefit to exhanges across cultures. And they also add that the introduction of this test into CET will much promote the college English teaching and learning as well. But others respond to this matter just the other way around and argue that the opposite is obviously true for our country. As they point out, in a culture like China where there is no English-speaking community, oral English can not find any way to get into our daily life, in which light this test is far from practical. Besides, they stress that most college students are too poor in colloquial expression to prepare themselves for this test.
I stick to the opinion that it is high time to adopt this test as an indispensable component of CET. As is well known to all, the entry of China into WTO will bring us into face-to-face contact with foreigners, in which case verbal communication will be inevitable and constant. Such a test will certainly condition us for the future challenge. From now on, therefore, I will focus more of my energy and time upon practicing spoken English for the sake of my adaptability to country’s tomorrow.
