Li’s compatriot Zheng Jie had better fortunes as she faced American Melanie Oudin for a place in round three. Finding her form early on, Zheng took the first set 6-3.

The former Wimbledon semi-finalist continued to dominate in the second while Oudin was decimated by forced errors. Conceding 31 of them in the match, Oudin would see her run end with a 6-1 second set loss at the hand of the Chinese. Zheng is the only Chinese player reaching the 3rd round.
