Final preparations are underway for Venezuelans to vote for their new president.

They will choose between the acting President Nicolas Maduro, and the opposition candidate Henrique Capriles, who lost to Chavez last year. Polling stations will open for 12 hours from 6 am local time on Sunday, unless there are still people waiting in line. Results are expected about three hours after polls closing.

Nearly 19 million registered voters are casting their votes. Electronic voting machines have been distributed to more than thirteen thousand polling stations. The "Union of South American Nations" consisting of twelve South American countries, has sent an observer mission group. Capriles’s campaign manager, Carlos Ocariz, has reassured voters, especially government workers, that their ballots are secret.
