He is now a Hollywood A-Lister who was the toast of the Oscars and the arguably one of the hottest young actors on the red carpet.

But times used to be very different for Eddie Redmayne, who starred as Marius in this year's blockbuster musical Les Misérables, as these new pictures show.

Even gorgeous Eddie was forced to start small, very small - as the face of knitting company Rowan Yarns.

The knitwear company, who published the snaps on Facebook with the caption: 'Hollywood A-lister found in the Rowan archive!', opted for Eddie to model their unusual designs in 2004, when he was 22.

Eddie is seen wearing a variety of garish jumpers, advertising patterns including Saucer, Brooklyn and Combat, a far cry from his latest modelling campaign which was for designers Burberry.

Unlike some of the Hollywood glitterati Eddie's snaps are not too embarrassing, despite his red hair hiding his chiseled face.
