A hot air balloon flying over Egypt’s ancient city of Luxor caught fire and crashed into a sugar cane field on Tuesday, killing at least 19 foreign tourists. The Hong Kong regional government confirmed that nine people from Hong Kong were on board.

An Egyptian security official says the balloon carrying 21 tourists caught fire, triggering an explosion in its gas canister. It then plunged at least 300 meters from the sky and crashed into a sugar cane field just west of Luxor, 500 kilometers south of Cairo. Two survivors, including one tourist and the pilot, were taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. Officials from the immigration department of Hong Kong will depart at midnight to assist in follow-up work in Egypt.
