Many young couples rack their brains to plan a romantic birthday party for their beloved. But the couple in South China's Hunan province were both born on the same day and they’ve been celebrating their 100th birthday. As we find out, romance is still alive for Shi Sifan and Liu Megu.

The birthday party is crowded. Five generations of the family have come together and more than 200 friends have come to celebrate. Liu Megu likes local opera so a local troupe is here to perform. Liu has never had expensive jewelry but her birthday wish is to give her husband a TV. And he’s got one, thanks to their son. Their daughter is preparing noodles in the kitchen because they are symbol of longevity.

"I bought lots of chicken, ducks and fish. I wish my parents good health and sweet love."

The couple were born on the same day: the 28th. December, 1912. A hundred years later, their love hasn’t faded. Three days before their birthday, Liu had an kidney stone attack and had to go to hospital. The surgery was a success, and Liu insisted on leaving hospital a day early to be with her husband. The couple were married in 1934. Liu is talkative but shy when she talks about their younger days.

"When we were young we always quarrelled with each other. I always questioned him but he always walked away quietly."

"Of course I had to give in. I am a man."

They’ve lived together for 78 years, but they haven’t let time diminish their love.

"I didn’t go to school. I don’t understand what’s on the TV."

"If you don’t understand anything, I’ll explain it to you."

Celebrating their birthday, the couple keep a tight hold of each others’ hand. Maybe, love and trust are the secret recipe for their longevity.
