The friends are attached to star in True Detective, a potential anthology series currently being shopped to cable networks, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The duo would star as detectives Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson) whose lives become entangled while searching for a serial killer in Louisiana.

The project is being eyed as a potential eight-episode first season with following seasons replacing the cast and story -- a similar format that FX has employed for its freshman hit American Horror Story from Glee co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

Nic Pizzolatto penned the project with Jane Eyre's Cary Fukunaga attached to direct all eight installments. Management company Anonymous Content -- who represents Pizzolatto and Fukunaga -- developed the project and will produce. The company's Richard Brown, Steve Golin and Brad Dorros will executive produce.

For McConaughey, the project would mark his first series regular commitment. Harrelson, meanwhile, would return to the small-screen with his first series regular gig following his run as the clueless but lovable Woody Boyd on Cheers.

目前剧集暂定名为《True Detective》，讲述了两名侦探Rust Cohle（McConaughey饰演）和Martin Hart（Harrelson饰演）他们在路易斯安那州追捕一名系列杀手17年，这段时间里他们内心充满了碰撞和纠结，因为当案件在2012年被重启审查时发现1995年的离奇命案因为警探的伪证而被误判。这个系列的模式采用第一季8集讲述一个完整故事，然后在后续季度里用相同结构讲述新角色和内容。

这部剧集剧悉已经由Pizzolatto和Fukunaga在内部开发和前期制作中，暂时没有公布人员名单的理查德·布朗(Richard Brown)、史蒂夫·高林(Steve Golin)和巴德·多罗斯(Bard Dorros)和上述两位一同出任执行制片人。这是第一部电视作品汇聚了McConaughey和Harrelson这两位好哥们在一起演出，此前两人在电影《艾德私人频道》和《冲浪好手》有过合作。而对于在好莱坞有着稳固地位的McConaughey来说更是第一个电视常规角色，巧合的是最近两人都出现了HBO的电视作品中，McConaughey去客串了剧集《体育老师笑传》，Harrelson则参与到了年度电视电影《规则改变》的演出中。两人最新的电影作品分别是等待上映的《魔力麦克》（左上图）和已经票房爆棚的《饥饿游戏》。
