"Carrie," the great Stephen King's first novel, spawned a classic horror film with two Oscar-nominated performances, one that is now in the midst of being remade, and the hunt for a new star is down to two.

Chloe Grace Moretz and Haley Bennett lead the list of young actresses director Kimberly Pierce ("Boys Don't Cry") is considering for her take on "Carrie," reported Vulture, about a high school wallflower with remarkable powers that bubble to the surface when she's angry or distressed. The part was first played by Sissy Spacek, earning the actress the first of her six Oscar nominations.

Further down the list are names like Dakota Fanning, Emily Browning, Bella Heathcote and Lily Collins. "Descendants" Shailene Woodley is said to have passed on an offer to take the part.

We love Moretz, but she's probably too young. We don't know enough about Bennett to have a strong opinion about her, but Terrence Malick cast her in his upcoming film "Lawless," so she's probably got some chops.

When news broke of the remake last fall, King himself had in idea for the title role, one that was both inspired and doomed.

"Lindsay Lohan as Carrie White… hmmm," the horror master said to EW.

And then there's the part of Carrie's whack-a-doo Bible-thumping mama, Margaret White, who was originally played with unchecked gusto by Piper Laurie. Pierce is supposedly courting Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore. We can see why Pierce would go for either, but they don't feel quite right, not domineering enough. Cate Blanchett, Melissa Leo, Tilda Swinton (!), Sigourney Weaver...

新版《魔女嘉莉》由米高梅和Screen Gems共同拍摄，据称会比布莱恩·德·帕尔玛版本更接近斯蒂芬·金的原著。老版《魔女嘉莉》为大导演布莱恩·德·帕尔玛代表作，讲述一位拥有超自然能力的少女嘉莉，一直遭受同学的欺辱和排挤，在毕业晚会上她再次遭受恶作剧，全身被淋满鲜血。极度愤怒之下，她开始疯狂的报复，茜茜·斯派塞克饰演的魔女嘉莉成为影片标志性角色。

关于翻拍版中的傲慢恶母角色，导演正在与两位影后级人物接洽：朱迪·福斯特与朱丽安·摩尔。
