Let me also thank Australia for its leadership and friendship over decades. While I'm not able to visit Australia on this trip, we know that Australia is one of our most trusted allies in the world. And as we've all seen in the news, wildfires have devastated the state of Victoria during the past week. President Obama and Prime Minister Rudd have discussed the situation by phone. And we have sent forest fire specialists to help the Australians out. We want our Australian friends to know that we mourn with them over the loss of innocent lives in this tragedy, and we remain grateful for our work together in the past and what we will do together in the future.
我还要感谢澳大利亚几十年来所发挥的领导作用和友谊。虽然我此行不能访问澳大利亚，但我们知道澳大利亚是我们在世界上最可信赖的盟友之一。我们都从新闻报道中看到，过去一周内野火给维多利亚州造成了巨大损失。奥巴马总统和陆克文总理通过电话讨论了目前的状况。我们已经派出森林火灾方面的专家帮助澳大利亚人民。我们希望澳大利亚的朋友们确知，我们和他们一道哀悼在这场悲剧中逝去的无辜生命。我们在过去共同努力，还将在未来携手前进，为此，我们心存感激。
