OK, in cross-strait ties, Taiwan authorities announced today they will open up 21 infrastructure projects to mainland investors. 1/3 of the projects are subject to certain conditions and those involve subways, roads, and stations. According to Li Hongyuan, head of the project management, mainland funds can only participate in these projects as joint ventures with local firms, rather than underwriting the projects independently. Mainland funds are urgently needed to sustain Taiwan's infrastructure projects, as the region is lacking 200 billion new Taiwan dollars, or 6.7 billion US dollars, to support on-going construction. Taiwan authorities will announce the completed list of available projects in March.
