Joel Kinnaman, from the AMC series The Killing, has been offered the title role in the Robocop reboot, according to Deadline. (In the original movie, Peter Weller played Officer Alex Murphy/Robocop.)

“In the first RoboCop when Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, then you see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop.” director Jose Padilha told ComingSoon. “My movie is between those two cuts. How do you make RoboCop? How do you slowly bring a guy to be a robot? How do you actually take humanity out of someone and how do you program a brain, so to speak, and how does that affect an individual?”

在几经辗转之后，新版《机械战警》的男主演终于有了着落，曾出演美剧《谋杀》的乔尔·金纳曼有望成为这部影片的主演。

与之前传说的迈克尔·法斯宾德不同，拥有瑞典和美国双重国籍的乔尔·金纳曼并不为人所熟知，但近年也出演了几部大制作，比如《龙纹身的女孩》和《藏身之所》。不过目前他尚未与《机械战警》的剧组正式签约。

据悉，老版《机械战警》将主角机器人抽象成了一个符号来影射整个社会，但在新版本中，导演表示将塑造出一个有存在感的独立机器人个体，通过他的特别身份，进而讨论人与机器人之间的差别，还有自由意志的必要性。

曾经成功执导过《精英部队》系列的巴西导演/编剧何塞·帕迪里亚将掌舵这部新《机械战警》。他将和Joshua Zetumer一同完成剧本。影片预计于2013年上映。
