To celebrate the Spring Festival, decorations with traditional Chinese elements are a must. And the Year of the Dragon has given artists and designers plenty of inspiration. Now, let's visit the Confucius Temple in Nanjing in East China's Jiangsu Province to check out the latest trend. As a leading role in the lantern market of the Confucius Temple, the Cao lantern craftsmen are sparing no effort to innovate. With an idea springing from the dragon kite, this brightly colored dragon lantern is a sight to behold after a complex series of 50 procedures. "A dragon lantern like this will give consumers a 3D experience. Auspicious clouds also decorate both sides of its body, making it appear like it's flying in the sky." Compared to the lovely Cao lanterns, a Lu lantern seems to be more powerful. Each scale of this dragon is made from four procedures, and an astonishing 3,500 steps are needed to complete the work. No wonder it's a limited edition. "This year, our dragon lantern is themed around the lotus, the dragons look like they are walking out of the water." In the past, Spring Festival decorations were crudely made. But now, they are becoming more of a specialty item. And of course, the prices have risen sharply as well. Now, one dragon lantern might cost up to 50 US dollars.
