Welcome back. Two giant pandas, Tian Tian and Yang Guang, or Sweetie and Sunshine, are settling into their new home at Scotland's Edinburgh Zoo. They arrived a week ago from Sichuan Province on a 10-year loan from China, aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries. On Monday, media were allowed to get the first glimpse of the pandas as they adjusted to their new surroundings. The eight-year-old pair, raised at the Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center in Ya'an, Sichuan, will become Britain's first pair of breeding pandas in 17 years. The male and female are currently being kept in different enclosures until they get familiar to each other. There is a mesh fence where they can look at each other, though. Pandas are notoriously difficult to breed because the females ovulate only once a year and can only become pregnant during a two or three day period. The public will be allowed to see the pandas for the first time on Friday.
