A World War II contract and the entrepreneurial spirit of Howard Hughes created the Spruce Goose, a floating, flying white elephant.Powered by 8 engines, the 200 ton plywood colossus, [-----1-----], was designed to carry 700 men into battle. However, the war ended before it was completed. In 1947, a Senate sub-committee demanded that Hughes prove the $25 million seaplane [-----2-----]. On November 2nd, 1947, Hughes obliged. He raised his [-----3-----] 70 feet above the water for the distance of one mile. [-----4-----], The Spruce Goose never flew again.
