Irish
"bodhran"
"bow-ran"
"Lord of the Dance"
What about drums? I think that there is a special Irish drum, right? A "bodhran", which is pronounced "bow-ran". The Irish love a party, but what kind of dancing do they do? I've heard of something called a jig. And I saw something called "Lord of the Dance", a stage show. In Irish dancing, the stage was sometimes even a table top! Irish dancers wear special shoes with buckles. The expression "cover the buckle" means crossing your feet so rapidly while dancing that the shine of the buckle covered the entire area. Yes, they move their feet and legs very quickly indeed. There are four types of Irish dance music: the jig, reel, hornpipe, and the set dances. The jig is the most graceful with light hopping, sliding, skipping and pointing. So, that one is just for women. Which dances do men do? Or do mostly men and women dance together? Both men and women dance the reel, hornpipe and the set dances. I'd love to learn some. It just seems so different from other dancing, so happy and full of energy.
