One hour before midnight on July 25, 1956, the Swedish ocean liner Stockholm [--1--] Nantucket and collided with the Italian Ocean liner Andrea Doria.

While the Andrea Doria listed badly, several ships were able to respond to her S.O.S. and [--2--]. Stockholm's bow was [--3--], but the Swedish ship [--4--].

Both ships were fully equipped with radar and authorities were puzzled as to the cause of an accident that left 52 people dead or missing. Twelve hours after the collision, the Andrea Doria foundered and was finally swallowed up for good by the New England coastal waters.
