In July 1944, a clique of German officers plotted to kill Adolf Hitler and stage a daring coup. Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg left a briefcase concealing a time bomb at Hitler's feet during a military conference. The bomb killed 4 people, but an oak table [-----1-----] Hitler.
