Many people of Italian heritage live in New York City, so they like to celebrate on this day. Often there will be a parade in the areas where they live. Many Italian came to New York City in the late 1800s and still in the same area, known as "Little Italy". If you visit New York City and want to visit some good Italian restaurants or buy special food, Little Italy is the place to go. In the Midwest, people don't really celebrate the Columbus Day. Comparatively few Italians live in this area. There are many more explorers, such as Swedish, Danish and Norwegian, who were probably here before Columbus.
