A gunman has killed two national guardsmen as well as a third person at an Ihop restaurant in Nevada before taking his own life, six other people were wounded. Officials say this appears to be an isolated incident.

Officials in Texas say wildfire there has destroyed more than a thousand homes in a week. At least 57 fires are burning across the state, so far more than 100,000 acres have been burnt.

Libyan rebels say they arepoised to enter one of the country's last remaining cities still under Muammar Gadhafi's control. They say talks to arrange a peaceful entry have made little progress.
