From offering ticket discounts to organizing activities, China's cities and provinces are welcoming tourists for the country's first national tourism day.

The date May 19th was chosen to commemorate the day when China's ancient travel book writer, Xu Xiake, began writing his masterpiece "Travel Notes of Xu Xiake" in the Ming Dynasty,some 600 years ago.Many regions across China celebrate the day.

In Shanghai, some 35 tourist attractions are offering 50 percent off the regular ticket price. In neighboring Jiangsu Province, the first 500 visitors will receive free entry to the historic cultural street in Zhenjiang. All A-level scenic spots in Xuzhou city will be half-price.
