The Ambassador of Denmark to China, Mr. Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen, sends his New Year Greetings to the Chinese people.

2010 will be a year of celebration in Sino-Danish relations. On 11 May it will be 60 years ago, that Denmark established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. Denmark was one of the very first Western countries to do so. Throughout 2010 this anniversary will be celebrated with a number of bilateral visits as well as commercial and cultural activities.

Another major event connecting Denmark and China this year is the World EXPO 2010 in Shanghai. It will be a perfect platform to tell the story of Denmark to China and the World. The theme of the EXPO 2010 is "Better Cities - Better Life". This theme gives Denmark a great opportunity to share our strong traditions and competences in creating sustainable and harmonious cities where people can live, grow and be happy without sacrificing economic growth.

As you all know, Denmark will bring the Little Mermaid to Shanghai as a gesture of friendship and trust. Having this national treasure at the very centre of the Danish Pavilion shows our dedication to both the EXPO 2010 in Shanghai and Sino-Danish cooperation in general.

I am sure 2010 will be yet another momentous year for China, yet another year with a lot of progress, with a lot of new developments, and I wish that this year will bring everybody more progress, more prosperity and continuous good health - 虎年快乐 (Happy Year of the Tiger).
