Notify = not-（知道）+ -ify（使，动词词尾），即通知、使知道，引申词义为“通知、通告”。同近义词有inform。Inform指传达事实或信息，或指经过研究或调查而获得的事实或信息。而Notify指正式通知需要注意的事情。

Notify常用表达有notify sb (of sth)，notify sth to sb，意为“to formally or officially tell sb about sth”，即（正式）通报、通知（某人某事）。比如Please notify us if the information is not correct如信息不正确，请通知我们；notify her to draw up a contract通知她草拟一份合同。
