12月19日周六，英国首相鲍里斯·约翰逊（Boris Johnson）发布紧急讲话：伦敦发现新冠病毒变异毒株已，比原始毒株的传播性高出70%。

The new strain is 70 per cent more infectious than normal.

这种新菌株的传染性比正常菌株高70%。

It's thought the new strain - called VUI202012/01 - emerged in London and the South East as early as September, Sir Patrick Vallance said at a Downing Street briefing.

英国首席科学顾问帕特里克·瓦兰斯（Patrick Vallance）爵士在唐宁街的一次简报会上说，目前认为这种新菌株VUI 202012/01——早在9月份就出现在伦敦和英国东南部。

 

此外，英国政府还制定了伦敦以及英国东南沿海地区为“四级防疫区Tier 4”。

 

Tier 4具体意味着什么呢？

For those affected, Tier 4 is essentially a return to the full lockdown which ended in England on December 2.

对于那些受感染的人来说，4级封锁限制基本上是回到12月2日在英格兰结束的全面封锁。

The PM's key message for those in these regions was to stay at home unless it's for essential reasons.

要知道此前鲍里斯一直不愿意松口取消计划，称圣诞节不让家人团聚“太不人道”，但在18日紧急会议后，19日宣布计划必须取消。

进入四级防控的地区，圣诞节期间民众除特殊原因外不允许与家庭以外人员聚会。而英格兰其他地区，圣诞节期间允许最多3户家庭的成员聚会。

天空新闻报道，英国卫生大臣马特·汉考克（Matt Hancock）警告称，新的冠状病毒毒株已经失控，人们需要表现得好像他们已经感染了这种病毒一样谨慎，尤其是在英格兰新的四级地区。

汉考克表示，过去几天英国病例急剧上升，并警告称，在疫苗全面推广之前，控制这种新变种病毒将非常困难。

 

伦敦市长萨迪克·汗表示，首都经历了“自二战以来最糟糕的一年”。

他支持对首都实施新的限制措施，但他指责政府给人们圣诞节带来“虚假的希望”。

而这还只是“噩梦”的开始。

在鲍里斯宣布圣诞节期间英国将采取更严格的封城措施后，当天，大量民众扎堆“逃离伦敦”过圣诞。

Travellers were told that social distancing “will not be possible” due to the volume of people on board, and those that felt “uncomfortable” should not stay on the train.
