南非不光有大量的宝石矿和贵金属矿，煤矿储量也很大，整个非洲的煤炭几乎全都来自南非。

而非洲的主要能源来源就是煤炭，所以南非基本以一国之力撑起了整个非洲的能源。

Two-thirds of Africa’s electricity is generated in South Africa. Around 77% of South Africa's energy needs are directly derived from coal and 92% of coal consumed on the African continent is mined in South Africa.
非洲三分之二的电力是由南非供应的。南非大约77%的能源需求直接来源于煤炭，而非洲大陆消耗的煤炭有92%是在南非开采的。
