1. -friendly

-friendly这个后缀主要有这两个意思：

①不破坏…的，对…无害的

ozone-friendly aerosols
不会破坏臭氧层的气雾剂

dolphin-friendly tuna
不伤害海豚而捕到的金枪鱼

 

②（用于词尾）适合…使用的

a family-friendly restaurant
适合家庭聚餐的餐馆

 

2. between us

美式口语里是(just) between us，还可以说(just) between you and me。

意思是：作为你我之间的秘密，不要告诉别人。

Between you and me, I don't think she'll stay in this job very long.
不要告诉别人，我觉得她做这个工作不会太久。

4. big-time

big-time是形容词，意思是一流的；极为成功的。另外，the big time是名词，意思是出名，成功，来点例句：

She finally hit the big time with her latest novel.
她最终因新出版的小说而一举成名。

You've really made the big time now.

5. be on the line

be on the line和意思是be at risk意思差不多，表示面临危险，处于危险之中。

这个习惯用语是19世纪开始流行的，最初是指战争的前线，那里有遭到炮火袭击的危险。后来，on the line的意思有所扩大，可以指其他的危险或风险。

Almost 3,000 jobs have been lost recently, and a further 3,000 are on the line.
最近已有将近3000人失去了工作，另外还有3000人也面临着失业的危险。
