1. wreck

wreck作名词，本意是(轮船、汽车、飞机或房屋失事后的) 残骸。

可以形容不好的状态，比如疲惫不堪的人; 不健康的人。

The stress she had been under at work reduced her to a nervous/quivering wreck.
工作上的压力让她高度紧张／战战兢兢。

2. outdo

outdo的意思是“胜过，超越；优于”：

He always tries to outdo everybody else in the class.
他总是想超过班里的每一个人。

补充一个超级实用的短语：not to be outdone，意思是不甘落后，不服输，不甘示弱。

Pat was wearing an outrageous purple dress, so, not to be outdone, I put on my new gold suit.

3. pop the question

pop的动词意思是（使）发出砰的一声；（使）爆开，当被人求婚，“pop the question”感觉就像砰的一声抛出问题。另外，求婚的常规表达是propose：
