Do you like rainy days?
Not really, I’m not fond of raining days since they’re quite troublesome for me. For instance, when I’m walking on the street, a can could splash water on me, which’ll make me feel cold.
What do you do on rainy days?
Personally I prefer to stay at home and enjoy my leisure time. I usually stay in bed all day long. Sometimes I can also get immersed in a good book or watch some romantic movies.
What is the importance of the rainfall?
Rain has various benefits such as watering the plants. It also cleans the roads of any dirt or dust, not to mention cleanses the air from pollution. Rain can also make people feel peaceful as they can listen to the raindrops outside.
Part 2 & 3
Describe a newly built public facility (such as parks, cinemas etc.) that influences your city.
You should say:
Where this facility is
When it was built
What people can do there
What influence this facility has
本题要描述的是一个新建的公共设施，话题所涉广泛，可以是我们熟悉的公园，图书馆，咖啡馆等等。此外还要注意题目中的一个限定，那就是“a newly built”，在描述中不要忘记体现题目中的这一限定。
The newly built public facility I’d like to share with you is a park in my community, which is not far away from my home and only takes ten minutes to walk there.
I’m not sure about the exact time that the park was built, but I guess it’s definitely not an old one since all the facilities inside were brand-new. The first time I found this place was about 3 months ago. I still remembered that was a lovely Sunday afternoon. After playing computer games all day long, I decided to get some fresh air and find a quiet place to wind down. Then I found this place on my google map by coincidence. Since it was very close to my apartment, I decided to have a look.
From that day on, I often go to that park, nearly on a weekly basis. Just like many other parks, there’re also some common facilities in this small area, like fountain, pavilion, benches, blossoms and so on. But differently, this one is extremely tranquil. Most people here prefer to do some quiet activates, such as playing Tai Chi, walking a dog, having a cup of coffee and reading a book.
Nowadays we can’t avoid sitting in front of a computer for a long time, and gradually get used to the sedentary life. However, I do think it’s very essential to go out and get some fresh air by doing some outdoor activities. For me, this place is just the right one to relax, since is very peaceful and refreshing, just like an oasis in the city.
Eg：He's well-liked by people in the community.
②all day long: 副词；整天；全天
Eg：She is bustling about all day long, serving the people.
③on a weekly basis: 每周
Eg：By keeping doing that on a weekly basis, you're gaining benefits from the repeated movements.
④ tranquil: 形容词；宁静的
Eg：The tranquil atmosphere of the inn allows guests to feel totally at home.
What measures should be taken to deal with damage on public facilities?
There’re various measures can be taken to deal with damage on public facilities. Personally I think a regular preventive maintenance is one of the effective ways. It is intended to prevent future breakdown of facilities or equipment before it actual occurrence. It is defined as a planned maintenance actions that intends to prevent breakdowns and failures of facilities or equipment it is performed on an asset while the asset is still capable of functioning in a satisfactory manner for some time.
①preventive maintenance： 词组；定期检修
Eg: Lack of expertise and good preventive maintenance can cause high startup and running costs.
Eg: He argues that the breakdown in the legal system has spawned a black market.
What are the differences between old facilities and new facilities?
I think the old facilities may cost more on breakdown maintenance. In contrast, the new facilities usually cost more on regular preventive maintenance. Some people believe that preventive maintenance is usually considered more expensive than the corrective or breakdown maintenance.
①in contrast： 词组；与此相反
Eg: In contrast, the lives of girls in well-to-do families were often very sheltered.
Eg: Scientific institutions have been reluctant to take corrective action.
What facilities do young people and old people like in your country?
It’s hard to say…personally I think most young people are very into bookstores, quiet cafes or something like that. However, old people tend to go to some public parks, and do some activities like playing Taichi, walking the dog and so on.
Eg: The optional courses include Taichi, Folk Dancing, Paper Cutting, Calligraphy, Folk Music etc.
②walk the dog: 词组；红包
Eg: I often watch TV for a while, and then walk the dog with my dad.
What's the difference between facilities in the countryside and the ones in the cities?
I think the facilities in the cities should be various than the ones in the countryside. In the cities, you can always see kinds of gyms and public gardens. There are also more department stores in cities. That means in the city, people can enjoy more convenience and experience more sufficient facilities than in the countryside.
①department stores： 百货商场
Eg: She counted herself lucky to get a job in one of Edinburgh's department stores.
Eg: One metre of fabric is sufficient to cover the exterior of an 18-in-diameter hatbox.
