Today, the consumption of meat in China is rapidly increasing as the people become more prosperous.However, a small but growing number of people,especially the young in cities become vegan. Vegetarianism is not something new, and the term”vegetarian” was coined a long time ago, and it refers to a vegetable regimen or vegetable diet. In ancient times, there was a common practice for people to be abstinence from meat for a period of time before some important religious events; besides people even went on fast for health purposes.
People today go vegetarian mostly out of weight loss purpose. Young people today are exposed to too much media coverage of the skeleton-thin models, and want to be like them. And becoming a vegan means a lower calorie intake, and can lead to significant loss of body weight in a short period. Some even skip meals to control energy intake. They can see weight loss, but it does not last long and the fat will get back very soon once people find it hard to stick to a low-energy intake. Some even develop the habit of binge-eating.
Therefore young people should keep a balanced diet to stay healthy and stay thin. Living on veges only is not good for them.
