But it turns out that even the most laidback beauty is supposed to send a message of empowerment and strength to young girls.

According to executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute, we all have a natural preference for blue, partially because of the sky. ‘It's something to look forward to, to see that blue sky,’ she tells Allure. ‘It's dependable. It’s reliable. It might cloud up, but we know it’s there.’
