The global downturn may have led budding brides and grooms to put economy before matrimony with fewer couples stepping out to tie the knot. But now it seems the age of romance is back, with '50s style glamour gowns and bold blinging rings leading the trends at Britain's National Wedding Show.

Catwalk models strutting down the runway show off the latest in designer wedding dresses.

Brides-to-be try out veils andtiaras to classical music by a string quartet.

These are just some of the 300 exhibitor booths at the National Wedding Show, the UK's largest.

From table displays to rings and cakes, the show aims to meet the needs of even the most exacting brides and grooms.

Show organizer Ashley Roberts says the global financial crisis had a trickle-down effect on the marriage industry with fewer couples hearing wedding bells.

But the inclination never slowed. Roberts says that decline now looks to have been reversed.

Ashley Roberts, Show Organizer, said, "About a quarter of a million people get married a year. Now that figure obviously varies from year to year. In recent years they've said due to the economy that amount of people has slightly declined. We've seen over the last few years that has actually started to pick back up again."

The models at London's Earls Court show off the most popular styles, with the 1950s look particularly in vogue at catwalk shows by leading international designers.

Visitors enjoy the 1950s-inspired show by Candy Anthony, who designs '50s and '60s-inspired wedding dresses made to measure.

Caryn Franklin, Fashion Expert, said, "There are always trends in bridal wear. One of the big ones is the sort of '50s Grace Kelly, retro chic look. Brides are really enjoying that kind of nostalgic femininity. They like a little bit of trend, so they like all of the Diamante, all of the bling, they like the longer lined '20s dresses but the latest one is the '50s, good for curvy brides as well."

The wedding ring, which symbolizes eternal love, is one of the most important purchases a bride and groom will make.

No wedding is complete without a cake. On show are a wide variety designs, ranging from traditional to contemporary.

And for a perfect end to the big day, no toast would be complete without a cold glass of bubbly champagne.
