Harry was frying eggs by the time Dudley arrived in the kitchen with his mother. Dudley looked a lot like Uncle Vernon. He had a large pink face, not much neck, small, watery blue eyes, and thick blond hair that lay smoothly on his thick, fat head. Aunt Petunia often said that Dudley looked like a baby angel — Harry often said that Dudley looked like a pig in a wig.

Harry put the plates of egg and bacon on the table, which was difficult as there wasn't much room. Dudley, meanwhile, was counting his presents. His face fell.

"Thirty-six," he said, looking up at his mother and father. "That's two less than last year."

"Darling, you haven't counted Auntie Marge's present, see, it's here under this big one from Mummy and Daddy."

"All right, thirty-seven then," said Dudley, going red in the face. Harry, who could see a huge Dudley tantrum coming on, began wolfing down his bacon as fast as possible in case Dudley turned the table over.

Aunt Petunia obviously scented danger, too, because she said quickly, "And we'll buy you another two presents while we're out today. How's that, popkin? Two more presents. Is that all right"

Dudley thought for a moment. It looked like hard work. Finally he said slowly, "So I'll have thirty… thirty…"

"Thirty-nine, sweetums," said Aunt Petunia.

"Oh." Dudley sat down heavily and grabbed the nearest parcel. "All right then."

Uncle Vernon chuckled. "Little tyke wants his money's worth, just like his father. 'Atta boy, Dudley!" He ruffled Dudley's hair.

哈利正在煎蛋的时候，达力和他母亲一起来到厨房。达力更像弗农姨父：一张粉红色的银盆大脸，脖子很短，一对水汪汪的蓝眼睛，浓密的金发平整地贴在他那厚实的胖乎乎的脑袋上。佩妮姨妈常说达力长得像小天使——可哈利却说他像一头戴假发的猪。

哈利把一盘盘煎蛋和熏成肉放到餐桌上，这可不容易，因为桌上已经没有多余的地方了。这时达力正在清点他的礼品。他的脸沉了下来。“三十六，”他抬头看着父母亲说，“比去年少两件。”

“亲爱的，你还没算上玛姬姑妈送给你的礼物呢。你看，在你妈妈爸爸送给你的大包下边呢。”

 “好吧，那就三十七件。”达力说，他的脸涨得通红。哈利看得出达力就要大发雷霆了，于是趁达力还没有把餐桌掀翻，连忙狼吞虎咽，把他的一份熏咸肉一扫而光。  

佩妮姨妈显然也嗅出了危险的信号，连忙说：“今天我们上街的时候，再给你买两件礼物。怎么样，宝贝？再买两件礼物，这样好了吧?”

达力想了一会儿，这似乎是一件很难的工作。最后他总算慢慢吞吞地说：“那我就有三十……三十……”

 “三十九件，我的心肝宝贝。”佩妮姨妈说。“哦，”达力重重地坐下来，抓起离他最近的一只礼包，“那好吧。”

弗农姨父咯咯地笑了。 “这个小机灵鬼是在算他的进账呢，这一点跟他老爸一模一样。有你的，好小子，达力!”他揉了揉达力的头发。

主要知识点：

1.  His face fell：

fall的意思有很多种，在这句句子中，取的是“decrease in amount, number or intensity”这么一个意思。
比如说，我们来看这句话：Her spirits fell at the bad news.（她听到这坏消息后情绪很低落。）
那我们再来看这句句子His face fell，是不是很形象地表现出“脸沉下来”这么一个意思呢？

2.  a huge Dudley tantrum：

这里有个生词tantrum，表是的是“（突然无理的）脾气发作”。
常用的词组是“have / throw a tantrum”，比如说：
Some kid threw a tantrum in the middle of the store.（有个孩子在商店里突然大发脾气。）
因此，这里的a huge Dudley tantrum就是指达力要大发雷霆啦！

3. wolf down:

wolf这个词大家都很熟悉，表示的是“狼”的意思。其实这个词还可以作为动词，它的意思很形象，就是：快而贪婪地吃某物；狼吞虎咽。
比如说：I thought there would be some biscuits left but they've wolfed the lot!（我还以为能剩下些饼干，但是他们都给吃光了！）
而wolf down表达的意思和wolf是一样的，大家不妨可以将它当做一个词组来记忆。

4. tyke:

tyke这个词我们平时可能不太常用，但是实际上这倒是一个灰常口语化的单词。
表示的就是“淘气鬼”，“小淘气”的意思。比如海格就有说过：
 Little tyke fell asleep as we were flying over Bristol. Try not to wake him. There you go.（小家伙一飞到布里斯托就睡着了。当心别吵醒他。你看。）
