Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro says his recent comment that Cuba's economical model does not work was misunderstood, and what he really meant was that capitalism does not work.

During a speech at the University of Havana, Castro said his words in an interview with US journalist Jeffrey Goldberg had been misinterpreted.

Goldberg, writing for the Atlantic Monthly magazine, asked Castro if Cuba's model was still worth exporting to other countries.

Castro was said to have replied that the Cuban model didn't even work for them anymore. Castro said Goldberg did not understand the irony in his comments, and he stands by the communist model he put in place after the 1959 revolution.
