20 billion gallons of fuel was used a year. A 1% increase in efficiency would save 10% of that. So if you can save 2 billion gallons of fuel a year, that's a huge savings for the planet.
Through the work being done at the Hessert Laboratory for Aerospace Research, the University of Notre Dame is intent on meeting industry needs for improving the performance of new and existing turbine engines. No fewer than 15 major corporations, including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Honeywell and GE have committed funds toward the project.
It's incredible to be a part of the graduate program here at Notre Dame. They provide opportunities for us to work on problems that are facing our future. It's a great blessing to be a part of an institution that supports these things.
