In the rush of my daily routine,it's easy to take for granted the importance of energy. But every second of every day, energy is helping to improve and save lives all over the world.
Unfortunately,as consumption continues to increase and we carry on polluting the environment,we're faced with a grave energy crisis.
There simply isn't enough clean energy to meet the demands of the world today.Nuclear energy has the potential,as a clean energy source,to significantly help solve this problem.Led by Professor Peter Burns,Notre Dame's Energy Frontier Research Center is laying the scientific foundation for converting nuclear waste into clean energy through the study of uranium mineralogy and environmental chemistry.
Dr. Burns has discovered a new class of particles that no one knew existed before and it has important implication for the reprocessing of spent fuel, the disposal of radioactive waste and for the future of nuclear power.
