This Day in History - Aug 14th Starring - Biggest Train Robbery

August 14th, 1963, at a lonely spot outside London, the Glasgow to London mail train was halted by a red signal and ambushed by 15 masked men. The gang unloads mailbags into a truck and escapes with more than 2 and a half million pounds sterling, a value exceeding $7 million U.S. dollars, the biggest train robbery in history. It took five days for the police to find the farmhouse in which the gang hid out and left incriminating fingerprints. Twelve members were found and convicted within a year, and the rest caught in other countries. But almost all of the money remain missing. Two of the robbers were sprung from high security prisons and one Ronald Edwards, last spotted in Australia, remained at large ten years later.
