President Barack Obama has apologized to former Agriculture employee Shirley Sherrod over her ouster in the midst of a racially tinged firestorm. The White House says Obama has expressed his regret in a phone call and urged her to accept the Ag Department’s offer of a new position.

A Greyhound bus traveling to Sacramento from Los Angeles has crashed on a highway just outside downtown Fresno, killing six people and seriously injuring nine others.

With a storm looming, the federal government oil spill chief says he’ll decide Thursday night whether to evacuate ships involved in the Gulf of Mexico cleanup. Retired Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen says if ships do leave, the ruptured well will remain capped.

A pair of rare baby Clouded Leopard is now on view for the public at a Paris zoo. The girl cubs were born in May. The leopards are endangered in their homeland of Southeast Asia and parts of China.
