In his later years, Leo Tolstoy landed in the most revered man on earth, part of this was due to his writing two of the world’s most acclaimed novels--- War and Peace and Anna Karenina. And part because his religious teachings reached as far as China, India, Europe and America. Tolstoy rejected any illusions to the state, arguing that the rich have built a corrupt and artificial world of fictitious values. But he also rejected political revolution, arguing that it bred hatred and violence. On May 25, 1909, czarist Russia jailed Tolstoy's publisher but dared not prosecute the author. Soon after, distressed that his teaching did not match his prosperity, Tolstoy secretly left home and died a year later.
