今天在办公室里讨论着“恐惧症”这个问题,英语君发现现在都市人不多不少都有一个或者多个恐惧症。那么今天,英语君就根据身边小伙伴们所说的,列出10个恐惧症,害怕之余不要忘记记下“害怕“的各种表达哟。

首先,要先和大家说说恐惧症phobia这个单词。Phobia是个名字,有“恐怖,憎恶;恐惧症“的意思,但它也可以作为一个后缀,指代所有的恐惧症。

1.密集物体恐惧Trypophobia

e.g. Trypophobia is a revulsion and fear of objects with clusters of small holes – think beehives, ant holes, and in particular lotus seed heads.
密集恐惧症就是指对有密集小孔的物体感到恶心和恐惧,类似物体有蜂窝、蚁窝,尤其是莲蓬。

e.g. I have Trypophobia. I’ve had it for years and never told anyone. When I see pictures like this, I practically faint. I can feel the blood rush out of my face. My heart races. My stomach turns over. I have nightmares. Laugh all you want, I now have goose bumps everywhere.
我有密集恐惧症很多年了,也没告诉过任何人。当我看到这样的图片时,真的马上吓得我快晕倒的。我都能感觉到自己吓得脸红耳赤,心跳加速,肠胃翻滚,噩梦连连。你们就尽管笑吧,反正我是周身鸡皮疙瘩的。

Faint:有形容词、动词以及名词。表示:头晕的,虚弱的,昏厥,昏倒。

heart races:不是心比赛,而是很形象的形容心跳加速。

e.g. Your heart races every time he calls and your palms sweat whenever he's near.
每当听到他呼唤我的名字就心跳加速,不管什么时候只要他在身边你就手心冒汗。

goose bumps:鸡皮疙瘩的意思,除了可以形容害怕以外,还可以在兴奋,寒冷的时候用。

e.g. I stepped inside, my arms turning to goose bumps from the chill.
我慢慢走进去,洞内阴冷的空气让我手上起满了鸡皮疙瘩。

nightmare:噩梦,可怕的。除了是说一个噩梦以外,还可以形容某事情很令人可怕。

e.g. Taking my son Peter to a restaurant was a nightmare.
带我儿子彼得去饭店吃饭真是一场噩梦。

2.无手机焦虑症nomophobia

e.g. Nearly 53 percent of mobile phone users in Britain tend to be anxious when they "lose their mobile phone, run out of battery or credit, or have no network coverage.
英国有近53%的手机用户在“手机丢失、手机没电或余额不足、或者不在服务区”的时候会感到焦虑不安。

e.g. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling anxious, on edge and worried when I don't have my phone with me. In fact, I know I'm not alone: two-thirds of us experience 'nomophobia', the fear of being out of mobile phone contact.
当手机不在身边的时候,我敢肯定不止我一个人会感到焦虑,紧张和担心。实际上,确实大部分人也会如此。我们当中有三分之二的人都有手机联系不上恐惧心理的经历。

Anxious:焦虑的,担忧的。

e.g. Most parents are anxious for their children's advancement.
大多数父母都为自己孩子的进步感到焦虑。

on edge:紧张,急切。

e.g. So if you're feeling on edge about what you need to do, don't let that stop you.
所以,如果你对将要做的事情感到紧张,别让这种焦虑成为绊脚石。

3.结婚恐惧症gametophobia

e.g. He loved me but he was afraid to marry me because for fear I'd upset his way of thinking and living.
他爱我,可是他害怕跟我结婚,因为怕我打乱他的思想和生活方式。

e.g. Many people don't want to get married because they are afraid of commitments.
许多人不愿结婚是因为他们害怕承担责任。

Be afraid to do:害怕做某事

e.g. Don't be afraid to do anything wrong, even if the wrong without regret.
不要害怕做错什么,即使错了也不必懊悔。

Be afraid of sth:害怕某事

e.g. Singles are stereotyped as miserable, lonely, immature, too picky, afraid of commitment, and so on.
一听到某人单身,人们下意识地就会认为这个人是可怜的、孤独的、不成熟、眼光太高、恐惧承诺等。

4.选择恐惧症Allodoxaphobia 

e.g. In addition, excursions should be taken into consideration if you have allodoxaphobia (fear of making a choice) or you are in a dilemma.
此外,如果你有选择恐惧症的话(害怕做选择),那么去短途旅行要考虑周全,不然你会左右为难。

e.g. There are too lot cakes to choose since.
蛋糕太多了,不知要选哪个好。

e.g. It’s difficult to opt from so many choices.
从那样多可供选择的东西中做选择是困难的。

e.g. Life is full of hard choices, and the bigger they are and the more options we have, the harder they get.
生活中很多事情真的是很难选择,事情对你来说越是重要,选择越是多,那么就很难做出选择。

take into consideration:考虑周全,顾及到

e.g. Of course, we also have to take into consideration our lifestyles.
当然,我们也必须考虑到我们的生活方式。

in a dilemma:进退两难,左右为难

e.g. It was precisely at this juncture that the boss found himself in A dilemma.
恰恰在这个时候老板发现了自己处在进退两难的境地。

Options:缩写 opt ,常见于日常便条以及商务英语中。

5.恐血症hemophobia

e.g. You don't want to sign up for a $ 10,000 vet tech course only to find out later that you faint at the sight of puppy blood.
你也不想报名上了一万美金的兽医课,结果只发现你晕血。

e.g. Since childhood has always been afraid of blood, I saw this, I cannot help but cry.
从小一向害怕血的我,见到这种情况,我不禁哭了起来。

cannot help but:不得不,不禁

e.g. We cannot help but admit that the Chinese people are a great people.
我们不得不承认,中华民族是一个伟大的民族。
