President Barack Obama offered words of praise for victims of the worst U.S. mining disaster in a generation and the pledge to their families to change industry safety standards. The president's remarks came during a memorial service for the 29 killed in a West Virginia coal mine earlier this month.

One day after a deadly tornado touched down in Mississippi, Governor Haley Barbour says more than 125 homes are unlivable. Barbour says it will be days before state officials are able to give a final tally of exactly how much damage was done. At least 10 people died in Saturday's twister.

For a second consecutive day, the Coast Guard has delayed the cleanup of an oily mess off the Louisiana coast because of high seas. The spill started nearly a week ago after a massive explosion aboard an offshore oil rig.

The World Bank has agreed to dramatically increase the voting power of developing nations, putting China in the lending groups No.3 spot. China has been pushing for a bigger say in international organizations to reflect its growing importance in the global economy.
